Habits
Changing habits is not easy. Luckily, it is not impossible either.
You can increase your chances of success by reflecting on your motivation, setting up the right environment and practicing self-compassion.
Let’s imagine you’d like to spend less time on your phone:
Self-reflection
Ask yourself why change at all:
- Is it to have more time for your hobbies?
- To help you sleep better?
- To avoid constant comparisons?
If you don’t work with a coach, writing your thoughts down will help you get real clarity. This step is super important. If there is strong motivation behind the change, you will find it easier to stick with it.
The right environment
Make it more difficult for yourself by deleting all games and social media apps or by leaving your phone in another room before bed.
Reward yourself – schedule ‘phone free’ times in your diary and for every time you stick with it, put some money aside to treat yourself later.
Self-compassion
Don’t forget that life is a mixture of good days and bad days. And when the latter strikes and you fall into the old habit – be kind to yourself. It’s OK to fall. Self-compassion will help you get back up and try again.
